Making Connections is a monthly free drop in event for Swindon and Southwest creatives that offers a held space for arts professionals and community artists to be together. Each session will have a practical component (2-hour workshop led by a guest artist), which will be followed by a networking/informal meet facilitated by the Making Connections team. The Making Connections team are Adrienne Hart (Artistic Director, Neon Dance) and Sarah Ferris (Swindon based dance artist and teacher).
“Adrienne and I spoke about a desire for a space to improvise, be creative with others, to bring regional based creatives together for personal and professional development, to feel embedded within a community and to be inspired.”
Where: Swindon Dance
When: Monthly 1.30pm - 4.30pm until June 2025. See our Neon Dance Events page for more details.
In this session, Vicki Plomer will lead a 2-hour improvisation workshop and this will be followed by a networking/informal meet facilitated by the Making Connections team.
Session description: This session invites you to drop beneath the surface and explore creative movement through a somatic, trauma-informed lens. Through exercises such as expanding and contracting your presence, exploring spatial awareness from within, and moving from inner sensation, you will be guided to reconnect with your body’s natural flow, ease and expressive power.
We will play with taking up more and less space, moving with eyes closed, and finding intuitive ways to release tension and shift from contraction to softness. These practices open a pathway to deepen your creative expression, embody your emotional landscape, and move from a place of inner connection rather than performance. No prior dance experience is needed — just a willingness to explore, feel, and discover the wisdom that lives within your body.
About Vicki: Vicki is a somatic therapist, emotional wellbeing practitioner, and creative movement facilitator. Grounded in a trauma-informed, compassionate approach, Vicki empowers creatives to reconnect with their bodies, heal through embodied awareness, and cultivate a life of authenticity, self-worth, and inner resilience.
With a background as a professional dancer, mother, and therapist, she integrates somatic movement, emotional wellbeing practices, and creative exploration to support deep, lasting change. Vicki’s work creates a nurturing and genuine space where participants feel seen, valued, and empowered to express themselves freely. She specialises in guiding creatives to discover their inner power and live from embodied connection.
NB: we appreciate that it can be challenging to find a spare three hours each month and would therefore welcome anyone who can commit to the workshop but not the networking (or vice versa). It is our intention to work with and curate an offer for local creatives and we hope to grow and adapt this initiative with those who take part.
