Last and First Men - The Coronet Theatre (UK)

Dance-lovers and industry friends: Neon Dance’s Last and First Men returns to London in a rare UK performance at The Coronet in Notting Hill.

Our dancers — Fukiko Takase, Kelvin Kilonzo, and Aoi Nakamura — move with precision in sculptural costumes by Ana Rajcević and Mikio Sakabe, in dialogue with original 16 mm film.

Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson’s haunting score and Tilda Swinton’s narration accompany the film. Last and First Men, completed and premiered posthumously, was the final major work by Jóhannsson.

Based on Olaf Stapledon’s 1930s sci‑fi novel, the piece envisions a far‑future humanity, long after our species — a poetic meditation on memory, extinction and the fragile legacy of humankind. Neon’s innovative, collaborative approach transforms Stapledon’s vision into a physically and visually striking journey across time and post‑human futures.
